Kevin Lipe versteht nicht, warum Notational Velocity einen normalen Cloud-Dienst wie Simplenote unterstützt:

[Some people] suggested Simplenote [for syncing NV notes]; that I can just turn off Dropbox syncing of the text files and let the cloud handle the rest. That’s appealing, in that my notes will be everywhere and the Simplenote web app is supposedly mind-blowingly good (I don’t have a Simplenote account [yet] so I don’t know for myself)—but I’m fundamentally distrustful of the cloud as the single home of all of my important data. With Dropbox, if the cloud gets vaporized by a rogue flood or earthquake or plague of locusts, I’ve at least got my latest working copies, and older backup copies on whatever other computers I’ve been using. With a solution like Simplenote, where the only way I can get to my notes is through my browser, if the site’s database goes away (as happened to ma.gnolia not too long ago), all my notes go with it (not to mention I can’t get to my notes without a WiFi connection).

Die Antwort liegt angesichts der gesunden Paranoia des Entwicklers nahe: Die Applikation gleicht die inhärenten Nachteile der Cloud ähnlich elegant aus wie die fehlende Verschlüsselung in CoreData.

Zu Simplenotes Ehrenrettung muss ich erwähnen, dass der Dienst zwar regelmäßig Änderungen verschwinden lässt, im Gegenzug aber japanische Kurzmitteilungen in meinem Account ablegt, um mich an meinen alten Vorsatz zu erinnern, eine asiatische Sprache zu erlernen.
