Nach seinem Abschied aus der aktiven Politik ist es um den seltsamen Südafrikaner etwas ruhiger geworden, dennoch konnte er Ende 2025 den genialen Geldverbrenner Sam Altman beim Wettbewerb Worst Person in Tech auf den dritten Platz verweisen und sich im Finale knapp gegen den Apokalyptiker Peter Thiel durchsetzen.

Seit dieser Niederlage hat Mr. Altman seinen Rang als unsympathischer Superschurke dank einer öffentlichen Charakterstudie –

Altman has a relentless will to power that, even among industrialists who put their names on spaceships, sets him apart. He’s unconstrained by truth, the board member told us. He has two traits that are almost never seen in the same person. The first is a strong desire to please people, to be liked in any given interaction. The second is almost a sociopathic lack of concern for the consequences that may come from deceiving someone.

The board member was not the only person who, unprompted, used the word sociopathic.

On the first day of testimony in a landmark trial between Elon Musk and OpenAI’s Sam Altman, two notably different tales were offered of how OpenAI evolved from a nonprofit artificial intelligence lab into one of the most influential tech companies in the world.

In Mr. Musk’s telling, OpenAI’s shift was one of the greatest heists in history — a nonprofit ripped from its promise of altruism by the greed of Mr. Altman, who founded OpenAI with Mr. Musk and a group of A.I. researchers more than 10 years ago. In OpenAI’s recounting of those early days, however, it was Mr. Musk who was the voracious capitalist. And when the lab’s other founders refused to go along with his plans, he left in a huff.

The trial makes the AI boom seem sordid and small. In his sworn deposition, Altman wrote that Musk used to message him complaints that he wanted more credit for the success of OpenAI and took offense at not being included in an anniversary photo. Altman has also said, of Musk and his lawsuit, Probably his whole life is from a position of insecurity. I feel for the guy. In the courtroom, Altman sat stone-faced next to Brockman and departed right before Musk took to the witness stand.

– aber in den ersten Tagen hat Elon Musk (petty, petulant, smug, awkward, and unprepared) eindeutig die Nase vorn. Wenn Mr. Altman nicht kurzfristig OpenAI Skynet veröffentlicht, sieht es nicht gut aus für ihn.
